Organise an event

In 2016, gardens, organistaions and local groups shared their love of gardening by organising an event and registering it on our website. Whether it’s just you, your family, your organisation, or your community, get involved with National Gardening Week.

You can Register your event now by clicking on the button at the bottom of this page. If you have an idea to discuss you can email us at

In the meantime, here are a few ideas to get you thinking for 2017:

  • Get a few people together to transform or clean-up an unused or neglected space in your area (with permission)

  • If you have a garden or outdoor space, hold a garden party and invite your friends and neighbours

  • Hold a fundraising event to raise money for a local community garden or project. Hold a cake sale, a sponsored weeding marathon or a bring and buy sale

  • Organise some family activities in your local park. Get children to make a paper pot and plant a sunflower seed inside. Run a mask making or face painting session with butterflies, flowers, bugs and beasties as themes. Make flower and leaf collages, herb teas or rhubarb jam

  • Give out recipe cards, activity sheets or gardening factsheets from our Things To Do section.

How to run your event

Have a great idea: You can use one of our suggestions above, come up with your own or visit the Events page to find out what other people are up to.

Register your event so that others can see it and join in.

Publicise your event

Tell your friends and neighbours, put up posters, call up your local paper, promote it on Facebook and shout about it on Twitter with #NGW. You can download templates for posters, press releases and more here.
